SHUTDOWN

Shutdown is a contemporary, streetdance-influenced dance piece about the reality of miners. The show pays tribute to their bodies, shaped and worn by work, as well as to their resistance and struggles.
A powerful and eloquent work, Shutdown features choreographic work by dancers from Rouyn-Noranda and Montreal, focusing on bodywork, strength, repetition, insistence, exhaustion and overcoming. Shutdown is also a sound design based on recordings of the sounds of the foundry, the neighborhood and the surrounding countryside, as well as excerpts from interviews with the residents of Vieux Noranda, recreating an atmosphere in which nature and the industrial world clash.Shutdown was created and performed as part of the multidisciplinary show Noranda, ville ouverte. Public performances took place in the Old Noranda district from August 21 to 31, 2024.
